FAQs - Frequently asked questions about exams and motorboat training
We have compiled all the important information on the sports boat license page.
The motorboat training (SBF Binnen / See) must be booked online via the university sports program of the FU Berlin.
The appointments (60 minutes each) take place from Monday to Friday from 2 p.m. to a maximum of 8 p.m. or Saturday / Sunday from 9 a.m. to a maximum of 8 p.m., see overview of dates (sport boat license inland / lake).
If appointments are already fully booked, the message "fully booked" appears, then please select / book another appointment. The individual lessons are activated exactly 30 days before the respective date (hour by hour).
As a prerequisite for admission to the practical exam, at least four individual training hours must be completed at the FU water sports center (Badeweg 3, 14129 Berlin).
We recommend keeping the appointments on different days in order to experience different training conditions (wind, waves).
In each training hour, two people are always in the boat with an instructor. Each participant drives 30 minutes at the helm and 30 minutes as a crew to carry out the team maneuvers.
Please always wear weather-appropriate clothing. The appointments are only canceled in exceptional cases (during thunderstorms or strong winds). Please always indicate your mobile contact when registering!
The training starts directly from the FU landing stage. Please wait at least 5 minutes before the start time at the WSZ-Seglersteg for the crew change. The current status certificate (student / university employee) and the booking confirmation must be submitted for each training date.
The completed training trips are checked via the at least four signed booking confirmations of the trainer, which must be submitted as a prerequisite for participation in the practical test!
In the event of delays, there is no entitlement to an alternative date.
When registering for training, the information sheet for motorboat training with all maneuvers, commands and information must be read and taken note of!
Without independent preparation for the practical maneuver training, the training cannot be completed within the 4 dates.
The official sports boat license (SBF) is required for inland waters (e.g. Wannsee) for sailing boats from 3m² sail area and motor boats (from 15 HP), see German Sailing Association and Examination Committee Berlin.
For sailing training, a practical basic sailing course and the theory SBF internal course must be completed. The practical course takes place on 10 dates of 5 hours each, either over 10 weeks in the morning or in the afternoon (from the end of April) or compactly over two weeks (Mon-Fri, NM from mid-July to early September).
No official SBF inland driving license is required for motor boats up to 15 HP. For more powerful boats from 15 hp upwards, at least four hours of training must be completed on the FU motor boats.
The official sports boat license for the lake is necessary for the coastal waters, 3 nautical miles from the coast (e.g. the Baltic Sea). The SBF See-Schein only includes motor boating, no sailing boat practice!
Prerequisites for the SBF lake practical training and examination are at least four hours of practical experience on the FU motor boats and the compulsory participation in the SBF lake theory course of the FU Berlin.
The training costs for sailing practice (SBF inland) are from € 180/200/230 (for students / university employees / external persons) and for motorboat practice (from € 104/124/144) and
The theory course SBF Inland Sailing / Motor and SBF See (from 42 €), see courses offered by the FU University Sports.
The SBF Binnen / See examination fees must be transferred directly to the Berlin Examination Committee when registering for the exam.
Per exam (e.g. theory / practice SBF Inland Sailing and Motorboat) € 125 is to be paid, see further FU exam information.
Furthermore, a medical certificate is required from the sports boat license applicants, costs from approx. 20 € (depending on the family doctor and any necessary examinations).
The following prerequisites are necessary for the examination registration for the sports boat license.
By the registration date, the entry in the FU online list must be made on the desired examination date and the completed documents must be sent to the Berlin Examination Committee:
- Passport photo (35 x 45mm) with name and date of birth on the back
- Fully completed registration form - with a cross for sailing and / or propulsion engine as well as information on the examination location (FU Berlin / water sports center) and examination date (practical examination), see PDF download from the Berlin examination board
- Original of the medical certificate, see PDF download from the examination board Berlin- z. B. medical examination via the family doctor or Dr. Tabert (make an appointment by calling 030 83227793)
- Copy of the car driver's license or certificate of good conduct "Sample O"
- Copy of the transfer receipt of the paid examination fee plus ancillary costs to the examination board Berlin
The complete examination documents for the sport boat driving license inland / sea must be sent to the office of the examination board Berlin (address: Gartenfelder Str. 29-37, 13599 Berlin) at least 2 weeks before the examination date.
Attention: after consultation with the Berlin Examination Committee, only those candidates who are entered on the online FU examination registration lists can be admitted.
All interested parties who only want to move on inland waters, the sport boat driving license (SBF) inland (e.g. Wannsee) sailing or motor boat is the right start!
For all those who would like to take a sport boat license inland and sea license, we recommend starting with the SBF See (coastal waters - 3 nautical miles from the coast). This license only includes driving a motor boat, not sailing.
The advantage of this sequence is that the FU motorboat training has to be completed only once (at least four hours) and the practical part is recognized in the sports boat driving license inland training.
For the SBF inland license, only one theory test then has to be taken.
The at least four motorboat practical hours must be completed before the examination date. As proof, the four printed booking confirmations for each appointment must be confirmed and signed by the motorboat instructors.
The four booking confirmations are the prerequisite for taking the practical test! If they cannot be presented, they will not be admitted to the practical test!
