FAQs - Frequently asked questions about rentals in the water sports center

We can offer our customers a diverse and high quality boat material.

Canoe:

For all boats (hiking, racing, whitewater kayaks as well as 2-3 person Canadians suitable for families) a canoe removal authorization must be proven (after completing the FU course or canoeing instruction).

Rowing:

For all Renneiner (skiffs) and team boats a license to borrow rowing must be proven (after completing the FU course or instruction date rowing). All users of the team boats (2, 3, 4, 8) must have the skiff authorization and at least one person must have the additional qualification as a boat driver!

Sailing:

In order to drive a sailing boat, the boat operator must provide evidence of a sports boat driving license (SBF) inland sailing and sailing practice (e.g. through a FU course or instruction on sailing). With this qualification, the entry-level boats RS Vision / Quest, Unijolle, Lis-, XY-Jolle can be sailed.

The boat driver (owner of SBF Inland Sailing) must put together a qualified crew according to the weather conditions. At least two people per sailing boat are required, for detailed information on the minimum / maximum crew, see rental rules.

The advanced boats Laser Stratos (with gennaker / trapeze) and the Topcat catamarans K1 & K2 (with trapeze) can only be used after additional training as SBF inland sailing. The FU advanced course or a VDWS basic catamaran license are required for this.

Stand up paddling (SUP):

We offer a basic course to learn about the material, how to use it safely and how to deal with possible dangers. The SUPs can be used for a maximum of 2.5 hours.

Windsurfing:

The windsurfing boards can be used after completing a FU surfing course with a VDWS basic license course. The maximum usage time is 2.5 hours per day.

The boathouse rules and rental rules (canoeing, rowing, sailing, SUP, windsurfing) of the FU water sports center as well as the terms and conditions of the university sports center apply to all users of boat rental.

For information on boathouse rules and safety see here.

If self-inflicted damage to the FU boat material or to windsurfing or SUP boards occurs, the boat operator must pay for the damage independently.

All boats and boards are fully insured with a deductible of € 250.

Please check beforehand whether the private liability insurance covers sport boat damage when renting a boat.

If not, the VDWS Safety Tool insurance (comprehensive / liability / accident insurance) can be recommended.
